City Profile: Peachtree Corners

When Peachtree Corners officially opened its Town Green in 2019, the charming two-acre lawn quickly became a can’t-miss destination not only for the largest city in Gwinnett County, but also for the entire metro Atlanta area. An integral part of Peachtree Corners’ 21-acre Town Center, which is home to numerous retail shops, restaurants and an upscale dinner theater, the Town Green boasts a complete stage setup for concerts, covered pavilions, café tables, a dog park, a moving veterans’ monument with seven sculptures and more. Recently, a number of features and recreational opportunities have been added to the already impressive offerings of the Town Green, making it a bona fide hot spot for fun outdoor activities and events, particularly during the summer months, drawing residents and visitors of all ages and interests from across the metro region.

For the Kiddies

In May, the Town Green hosted the grand opening of a new space-themed Tot Lot playground. The child-friendly spot was designed specifically for little ones under the age of 6 and includes a host of exciting equipment, from a rocket ship and a moon rover to a crashed UFO, all of which are fully accessible and perfect for climbing, swinging and all-around play. The new city amenity is an ideal complement to the first Town Green playground that opened in 2022. The initial playground facility, crafted by Playground Creations for children ages 5 to 12, features the We-Go-Swing, the RollerSlide, the LoungeSpinner, the figure-eight-shaped Quantis® Netplay structure, a TightRopeTM Bridge and a custom Peachtree Corners Tower that mimics the pedestrian bridge that crosses over Peachtree Parkway; it has two slides, a climbing structure, stairs, two PlayBooster® towers and more. Together, the Tot Lot and Town Green playground take creative play to the next level for children…and their parents.

For the Fitness Buff

Outdoor fitness is a year-round option in Peachtree Corners, thanks in large part to the Path to Fitness, a unique green space at the Town Center developed in 2021 by city councilman Alex Wright and city manager Brian Johnson, both veterans of the U.S. Army Rangers School. The al fresco facility combines the outdoors with the type of high-end fitness equipment that normally would be found in a gym. Today, the trail features 10 fitness stations that include a 20-foot rope climb, unique monkey bars, a wall climb, pull-up bars, a spot for sit-ups and more. Each station also boasts a corresponding QR code that allows visitors to access tutorials via their phone. It’s an obstacle course that allows fitness buffs to enjoy metro Atlanta’s outstanding warm weather while getting the most out of their workouts. And while the Path to Fitness absolutely is not a playground, it makes getting fit as fun as possible in a spectacular setting.

To take their fitness goals even further, locals also can participate in CrossFit on the Green, presented every Thursday from May through September for participants of all levels who want to build strength, agility and endurance. Yoga on the Green, held every Tuesday throughout the summer, also offers a great fitness-based start to the day.

For the Pet Parent

March 2024 saw the opening of the Peachtree Corners’ Off-Leash Dog Park, located behind the CineBistro building just off the Town Green. The park is 9,000 square feet of undisputed canine fun with specific sections for small dogs (30 pounds and under) and large dogs (over 30 pounds), as well as both natural and artificial turf areas. A plaza with a shade sail is accompanied by water fountains, pet waste containers, shaded benches, enhanced landscaping and more. Pups and their parents can spend a summer morning or afternoon together getting some Vitamin D and physical activity, eventually followed by a trip to the Bone Bar, a soon-to-be-built bar that will serve adult and non-adult beverages, as well as dog treats. It’s the perfect spot for everyone in the family, including those beloved four-legged friends.

For the Entertainment Enthusiast

Of course, the Town Green was made for entertainment in all of its forms. In 2024, that includes more than 80 events that begin with music concerts throughout the season. The Summer Concert Series is a free event that starts the season and features live music under the stars. The concerts are held on the last Saturday of each month from May through October; the series features popular tunes performed by both original artists and cover bands. Fans are encouraged to eat at restaurants in the Town Center or bring their own food to the concerts. If that’s not enough, the city also hosts another awesome free concert series: Night Music and Market, held on the second Saturday of every month from May through October. Guests enjoy live music featuring local artists, who perform at an earlier time of 4 p.m., as well as access to a vibrant marketplace with unique items from top artists, makers and vendors.

Without a doubt, summer would not be complete without Peachtree Corners’ Flicks on the Green, held the first Saturday of every month from June through September and featuring classic family-friendly movies like “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Lilo & Stitch.” Additional events include the Mid-Summer Kids Festival, complete with inflatables, bubbles, games and activities, and Sports on the Screen, which allows visitors to tailgate while watching  baseball, soccer, golf, football and more right on the Town Green. There’s really something for everyone, and there’s no better place to be on those summer days and nights than Peachtree Corners.
