Suburban versus Urban

When his job brought him from Alabama to the metro area, Ben Chastain had to choose between living near his family in Alpharetta or his office in downtown Atlanta. After looking at more than 100 houses in three months, Chastain opted to stay close to both work and the city’s social scene, buying a renovated 1940s home in Loring Heights.

“It was my favorite neighborhood the whole time we were looking,” Chastain recalls. “It’s hidden on the edge of Midtown and Buckhead, right behind Atlantic Station, and I liked the way the area is growing with the new development on Howell Mill Road and on Northside Drive. I wanted something that was not cookie cutter and something that, even if it was a little older, had been updated and renovated to some degree. The front half of my house is a two bedroom, one bath that was built sometime in the 1940s, and the back half is a 2003 addition that [includes] a brand new kitchen and master suite. I got a great buy.”
