Living on the Links

Plentiful Amenities Score Big in Gold Communities

By Pamela A. Keene

Driving into any of the many upscale golf communities in metro Atlanta can be breathtaking. From meandering along rolling hills to glimpsing views of sparkling lake waters, those who ride along the winding streets know they have arrived home.

Atlanta’s golf communities continue to raise the bar on quality, style, design and amenities, and people interested in living on the links have choices galore in every part of town.

Exclusivity and Estate Lots

With architecture based on the classic styles of the 1920s and 1930s, Hawks Ridge in Ballground in north Cherokee County offers a very limited number of home sites ranging from one to 14 acres. “Our vision is to create an exceptional golf club community reminiscent of the old-world sophistication and luxurious lifestyles,” says Paulette Pond, director of sales and building for Hawks Ridge. “It’s all about the golf here with our Bob Cupp-designed course.”

Lots start at $180,000 and sell for up to $700,000; homes range from $1 million to $8 million. The community is nestled in woodland terrain and rolling hills. Views from the golf course are spectacular. Set on 550 acres, the 18-hole, par-72 course is private, by-invitation-only. It was voted No. 24 nationally and the No. 2 Modern Golf Course in Georgia by Golf Week Magazine.
