For Judy and Charlie Dollar, an exciting new chapter of their lives is only just beginning: Charlie retired last month and now they have their days to spend together doing whatever they please. But the first of those days will not be spent leisurely playing golf or gardening; instead, they will be packing up their lives and moving into their brand new home at Seasons at Laurel Canyon.
The Dollars are part of a growing number of seniors who are purchasing homes in active adult communities in Georgia. At 65 and 66, respectively, Judy and Charlie are ready to shed the house that they have raised their family in and downsize to something more comfortable and suited to their needs.
“We wanted to downsize into a smaller house but didn’t want to go to a small subdivision with first time homebuyers and lots of kids. There’s nothing wrong with that but we’re already past that,” says Judy. Indeed, the Dollars have raised their own kids and have six grandchildren, who are all spread throughout the U.S.
Seasons at Laurel Canyon, built by Levitt & Sons LLC, is a 766-home active adult community located in Canton, whose residents are 55 years of age or older. A full range of activities and amenities are available for residents to enjoy, including a 28,000-square-foot clubhouse with a theatre and performing arts center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a horticulture center with greenhouse, billiard and card rooms and much more.
